#19 - Discovering Web 2.0 Tools
For this exercise I found myself going back to Flickr. What I love so much about this tool is that you can search for places you have never been too, and images just pop up! I plan on using this when it comes to deciding where I want to go for my next trip. I can see that students could use this in the library to find pictures they need to add to research.
#18 - Web-based Apps: They're not just for desktops
I did not know this existed. I have never heard of Google Docs before! I published this right to my blog from Google Docs.
#17 - Playing around with PBWiki
After finding the password I was actually able to go in and add my favorite restaurant, Pei Wei. I love their food! They have great stir-fry's and lettuce wraps!
#16 - So what's in a wiki?
So what's in a wiki? The shorter answer is what is not in a wiki? As far as I could tell, and my technology skills are still very inexperienced, you can find almost anything in a wiki. I loved the SJCPL Subject Guides, it was so easy to find what you wanted, just click on the subject and it brings up another page of choices to narrow your seach, then you can click on individual titles and it brings them up for you in their catalog! Amazing! I think that all libraries should have this!

#15 - On Library 2.0 and Web 2.0
In reading the perspective, Away from Icebergs, I am taken back to a time 10 years ago when my son was finishing middle school and transitioning into high school he made, or I should say WE made, many, many, many trips to the Library in hopes that they would have the information he needed for this report or that project. Sometimes it was in panic mode as he had waited too long and maybe the library would be closed by the time we got there! We did not have a computer at home and if we had I don't even know what would have been available to us electronically.
Fast forward to today as my daughter is in her last two years of high school and she seldom needs to make a trip to the library! How is that possible you say! Well, she has a computer at home, they have computers at school, and guess what? She knows how to use them! Her generation has a full command of all of the new, and to some older folks "scary" technology, out there. So why would she want to come to the library? She comes to find DVD's to check out, better than paying for them at Blockbuster, or to hang out with her friends in a comfortable environment, however she complains about the lack of all of those speciality coffee drinks that they can get at Starbucks so maybe they should hang out there instead. Programs are another thing that she will come to the library for or the occassional book that the school doesn't have available. Yes, I think we need to look hard and figure out just how we can entice those teens back into the library.

#14 Getting not-so-technical with Technorati
I went and explored Technorati and searched for various items. I did find that there were 9 blogs tagged as "Learning2.0spls" and 444 blogs tagged as "Learning 2.0." There were only 371 posts tagged as "Learning 2.0," so I guess that means that not everyone adds tags to their blogs. I even found photos and videos tagged as "Learning 2.0." I also learned something very valuable to me when I put in "Vista and Trend Micro Problems," according to some of the blogs Vista breaks Trend Micro which explains why my new computer is having issues!

#13 Playing around with Del.icio.us
I went in and played around and found a wealth of information on absolutely every item I put in the search box. It was amazing! I love to look at ballet pictures, I found some here: http://www.ballerinagallery.com

#12 - Getting to Know You
I have to say the possibilities are endless with both My Space and Facebook accounts. As I blogged earlier, I use Facebook to play Scrabulous alot! I never really thought of using My Space as I think of it as a technology reserved for teenagers. However, when I went out to My Space I was amazed to find High School classmates whom I haven't talked to since High School! That was quite a while ago....

#11 My Library Thing
I love this! It was so much fun to see how many people matched with all 5 books I added. I was able to look at the other books they had in their library and it gave me ideas of new books to read!

#8 & #9 - Information at Your Fingertips
RSS feeds are certainly a good way to keep track of the information that is important to you. I like the idea of being able to find the lowest gasoline prices. However this exercise certainly was hard!! Actually finding the feeds was not too difficult, certainly not as confusing as setting up the Bloglines account, I am still a little fuzzy on some of that. To view my RSS feeds, click here.

#7 - Valerie plays Scrabulous on Facebook
I have found Facebook and I am in love!! It has a version of my favorite game in the world "Scrabble!" Facebook's version is called "Scrabulous" and it is fabulous! I can play Scrabulous on-line with anyone else who has a Facebook account. Facebook even tells me when my "friends" are online. It is fun to know when they are on-line as you can electronically "poke" them. I have already won several games, and of course, lost several as well. I have also found relatives in Germany who are on Facebook. My 30 year old nephew thought it was so "cool" that Aunt Valerie has a Facebook account. Go play on Facebook, I am sure you will not be sorry.

#5 & 6 - The ballet of the belugas
Exploring flickr was really great. I used the search feature and asked for beluga and ballet (two of the things I love) and up popped this wonderful picture that combine them both!

Easiest & Hardest of the 7 & 1/2 habits
Of the 7 & 1/2 habits I think that number 7 is probably the easiest for me as I like to help other people. People are always so appreciative when you are able to teach them something new or show them where to find the information they need. The hardest of the habits is probably number 5 as it takes time and time is not something I can make more of (believe me, I have tried.)

My first post!
Well, this is certainly a new and wonderous adventure for me! I must say, the mere fact that I have made it this far is quite exciting. I am entering a previously unknown (okay, no laughing, it is unknown to me) land filled with new and amazing things at every keystroke. I actually think that I am morphing into a new person. I have already set up a facebook account from home so that I can play scrabulous with a certain friend of mine....which I enjoy most of the time, okay I say most of the time beacuse she.....well....I don't want to say that she cheats, let's just say that she doesn't always follow the rules!
